Etowah River Striped Bass Fly Fishing

The Etowah River is one of the most beautiful and diverse fisheries in Georgia, offering stunning scenery as it flows through 48 miles of valleys and farmland below Lake Allatoona. This tailwater is a unique warm-water fishery, featuring a variety of habitats including shoals, Indian fish traps, downed trees, and deeper holes. The river supports a rich diversity of fish species such as carp, smallmouth buffalo, redhorse suckers, blue catfish, channel catfish, bluegill, redeye bass, spotted bass, largemouth bass, freshwater drum, and striped bass.

We specifically target striped bass using 8wt rods with sink-tip lines, a 5-foot leader of straight 20-30lb fluorocarbon. Subsurface streamer fishing with shad-imitating patterns is key, requiring advanced fly fishing techniques. With fish reaching up to 40 pounds, be prepared for an intense battle!

The best time to target striped bass is during their run for cooler waters, typically between May and September. Whether you’re fishing creek mouths, undercut banks, or deeper holes, this experience offers some of the most exciting and challenging fly fishing in Georgia.

Target Species

The best time to target striped bass is during their run for cooler waters, typically between April and September. While fishing for striped bass, we also catch many other species of bass that populate the river, including white bass, spotted bass, shoal bass, and largemouth bass.
