Owner / Fly Fishing Guide

I have spent the last 25 years pursuing my passion for fly fishing in some of the most incredible destinations in the US, Canada, and South America. I’ve been fortunate enough to learn the finer nuances of fly fishing from some of the best guides and captains. These professional guides passed along decades of knowledge that can't be acquired by reading alone. With a burning desire to learn more and a love for the outdoors, I’ve spent over 100 days per year floating and wading every section of my home waters, the Chattahoochee River. In March of 2018, I opened Tie One On and began sharing my enthusiasm and love for the sport by guiding.

I truly enjoy the camaraderie that forms when a guide and client work together in pursuit of a fish. I thrive on making the team successful and enjoying the amazing resources that the Hooch offers. There’s nothing quite like seeing the excitement when a client realizes a fish has just taken a swipe at their fly and they’ve successfully set the hook on one of the most colorful fish on the planet. I love the unique feeling of silently gliding into a pool in the comfort of a driftboat, with expectant anglers looking for the perfect line of current to unleash their flies in just the right spot, hoping to see a flash underwater as a trout inhales their fly. The feeling of bending a 9-foot fly rod, setting the hook, managing the fly line, stretching out of the boat to net the trout, and then observing that amazing fish is truly awesome. A quick picture and a successful release, followed by a brief celebration, is about as good as it gets.

I fish year-round but also enjoy snow skiing. I have an MBA in International Business and a BBA in Finance. I’m also fortunate to have a wife who loves the outdoors and fly fishing. We have a son and daughter who are both working full-time. Matt, who recently got married, has brought us an awesome daughter-in-law.

I’ve also recently partnered with Spinner Fall Guide Service in Dutch John, Utah. You can now book days floating the Green River Flaming Gorge with me and the Spinner Fall team of world-class guides.

Fly Fishing Guide

I have a passion for fly fishing and guiding that’s undeniable. I consider myself lucky to call the Chattahoochee River my home water and get to share it with clients, friends, and family as much as I can. I grew up on Lake Sinclair, cane pole fishing with my grandpa for catfish and panfish. But once I picked up a fly rod and stood knee-deep in moving water, I knew it would be a life-long obsession.

I’m fired up to chase all sorts of fish, including Bows, Browns, Brookies, Striped Bass, Carp, and Shoal Bass. Whether it’s the Hooch, hiking into blue lines, towing the boat to NC and TN, heading out west, or planning for Alaska, fishing and helping others catch fish is always on my mind. I take a lot of pride in helping beginners land their first fish on the fly, and I’m always game to take seasoned anglers out to hunt for trophies.

When I’m not taking clients out, you can still likely find me on the Hooch with my fishing pup, my wife, or some buddies, throwing streamers for big, wild Browns with an 8wt rod in hand.

Fly Fishing Guide

I grew up in the small town of Harlem, GA, where I developed a passion for fishing and the outdoors at an early age. I eventually moved to Atlanta to pursue a career in the golf industry, but with easy access to the Chattahoochee River, I quickly became an avid fly fisherman, spending much of my time off on the river. I’ve been guiding on the Chattahoochee for over a decade and joined Tie One On in 2023.

Throughout the years, I’ve also guided in the mountains of Georgia and North Carolina, and I have extensive experience guiding trophy trips on the Soque River. I really love fishing the Nantahala and Tuckaseegee Rivers in NC. I guide float trips from a 15ft Stealthcraft drift boat, which provides clients with a safe and comfortable day on the water. I enjoy working with anglers of all ages and skill levels, helping them make the most of their time on the water.

Fly Fishing Guide

I’m a native Georgian and have fished these local waters all my life. I’ve been an avid fly fisherman for over 20 years, starting with mountain trout in North Georgia and along the Chattahoochee River. Soon after, I learned you could chase much larger fish with a fly rod: the striped bass! I used to troll live bait in Lanier, Clark Hill, and Oconee, but once I realized I could catch them on a fly rod, it became my focus for the last 12 years. Georgia has an incredible striped bass fishery, where you can chase these fish year-round if you know where and how to look, whether in rivers or lakes.

I fish out of a Towee Calusa Pro, which gives me quick access to a variety of waters. Though small, it's versatile, with large front and rear casting decks for up to two anglers.

My passion for striper on the fly has expanded to tying flies, creating new designs, rod building, and artwork. Now, I aim to help others pursue these great fish. Whether you're new to striped bass fishing and seeking your first on the fly, or a seasoned angler hunting for a trophy, I’d love to take you out for a great time and help make it happen.

Our Driftboats

About Us

Our Driftboats

We fish from 16-foot driftboats that comfortably accommodate 2 anglers and an experienced guide. What sets our boats apart is the addition of kicker motors, allowing us to shuttle ourselves and access spots with much less pressure and traffic. Many of the rivers we fish can be hazardous for those unfamiliar with the waters, but our guides, who know the rivers inside and out, ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all!
