Georgia’s waters are a fly angler’s dream, offering incredible opportunities for brown and rainbow trout. We fish local rivers within an hour of Atlanta, as well as private waters like the Soque River, where you can target trophy trout.

About Us

Chris Markham

I truly enjoy the camaraderie that forms when a guide and client work together in pursuit of a fish. I thrive on making the team successful and enjoying the amazing resources that the Hooch offers. There’s nothing quite like seeing the excitement when a client realizes a fish has just taken a swipe at their fly and they’ve successfully set the hook on one of the most colorful fish on the planet.

About Us

Our Driftboats

We fish from 16-foot driftboats that comfortably accommodate 2 anglers and an experienced guide. What sets our boats apart is the addition of kicker motors, allowing us to shuttle ourselves and access spots with much less pressure and traffic. Many of the rivers we fish can be hazardous for those unfamiliar with the waters, but our guides, who know the rivers inside and out, ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all!

Target Species

We target a variety of trout and bass species in local rivers and private waters.

Brown Trout

Brown trout are the apex predators in their waters. Our browns naturally reproduce and thrive in the cold-water sections of tailwaters below dams, where optimal temperatures are consistently maintained year-round. The average size we see is typically around 12 inches.

Striped Bass

My favorite local fishing experience is targeting Striped Bass. We have a unique opportunity to catch giant Striped Bass using shad-imitating streamers as they migrate upriver from our lakes during the spring and early summer. These hard-fighting fish can reach up to 40 pounds!

Rainbow Trout

Our Rainbow Trout fisheries have some natural reproduction, but they are primarily stocked, with the Chattahoochee receiving over 300,000 trout each year! Most of our trout are caught using subsurface nymphs, and the average size we see is around 9 inches.

F1 Largemouth Bass

On our private water trips, we’re fortunate to have the opportunity to target F1 strain largemouth bass. These hard-fighting fish grow to impressive sizes, and it's common for anglers to catch their personal best bass on these trips! We typically target them from late spring to early fall.
